Jesus Christ in us; Jesus Christ through us

Music Department

The Singing Congregation

THE MOST IMPORTANT MUSIC GROUP in our church is the congregation. We believe that God has given EACH person the opportunity of expressing their God directed worship and praise through the gift of music. So, we encourage everyone in our worship services to SING UNTO THE LORD.

Our Choirs

Choirs serve two purposes in our worship.  First, our Choirs strengthen congregational singing.  While this purpose is best served when the choir sings from behind the congregation, we position our choirs in the front as an aid to the second purpose, musically leading the congregation in both praise and proclamation.  Depending on the Sunday and the themes of our worship, the choir may present their music as an act of praise, as a response to Scripture, as prayer, or as preparation for the sermon.  In all of our musical offerings, we seek to help the congregation worship well as the living God is met in our midst.

Our Choir usually divides by worship service. During some services the whole choir sings at both services.  Several services each year are further led by adding an orchestra.

The Choirs practice on Wednesday evenings, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Instruments of Praise

Many of our worship services are enhanced by the contribution of solo and ensemble instruments.  Violins, trumpets, clarinets, French horns, oboes, bassoons, guitars, drums, and other instruments are welcome in our worship.  Our music minister, Roger Hicks, is pleased to work with soloists and ensembles, adults and youth toward beautifully enriched worship.  Handbells are included among our worship instruments.

Children
 ,
Our children are also taught to sing and are given opportunity to share their gifts in the worship of God.  On Sunday evenings, children are divided into age appropriate groups.  Seasonal material is taught in anticipation of Christmas and Easter.  Joyful and worship music for other times and seasons is also taught.  The older children are given instruction in the ringing of handbells.  The children practice at 5:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Music has always held a special place among God's people.  To discover ways to share your gifts, feel free to contact our Minister of Music, Roger Hicks, pumcmusic@pinehurstumc.org .

Christmas

Each year as we worship God through the Advent season and draw nearer to Christmas, the Choir is bolstered with additional singers as they prepare to lead the congregation and our guests in a musical reflection on Christmas, its meaning and its grace.  The Christmas choir has begun preparing, and additional singers are welcome to prepare and participate.
